Jeffersontown Bible Church (JBC)

Big changes are happening with our ‘home’ church here in Louisville!

  • JBC is a new church plant just now approaching being two years old. Lanny Groves is one of two pastors who originally moved to Louisville to begin this church work. Within a few days he and his family will depart to head back to “home” in Texas. After a few months there of ongoing support raising they’ll next move to a ministry location in Rota, Spain to serve in ministry with Cadence International. We invite you to pray for us for the Groves family in their moves and their ministry. We’ve provided them with a website as our gift to their ministry which you can visit here.
  • Larry Duncan also moved to Louisville with his family from Illinois. Larry is currently building a house - literally - he is building it himself, with the help of others who volunteer their time. It’ll be several months before he’s done and once completed they will move from rental property into their own home. If you’d like to volunteer some time please let us know! Please pray for Larry as he works hard to prepare his home, works towards establishing a new church in the community and has his hands full with handling the due diligence of acquiring a new meeting place for our church family to worship (see below). Larry, as a new church plant pastor, is faith-based supported by others as JBC is literally a mission work at this time.
  • The church has been meeting weekly in a local Clarion Hotel. We are in process of taking finalBuilding steps to lease a small store-front property in Jeffersontown, a suburb of Louisville. This property is located on the main road where nearly 30,000 cars pass daily! We are focused on praying for numerical growth for our church fellowship, finances to cover our expenses and eventually a salary for our pastor, effectives of ministry to the community and continued harmony for the church family. You can visit the churches web site by going here.

Web Site Ministry

Jim has just completed a redesign and reformatting project for the Collaborative for Neighborhood Transformation - CNT (open a new window here to visit the site). This update has been a huge undertaking that has taken several weeks to get done and to some degree is still in the tweakng process. The purpose of CNT is to establish a wholistic, transformational ministry with the purpose of bringing together Jesus’ Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19-20, and His Great Commandment to heal the sick found in Matthew 25:36 in multiple neighborhoods within a city. This intertwines word and deed.

We have several other ministry web sites that are in process that we’ll be able to share with you about in future newsletter updates!

Personal

Gardening: This year we’ve taken on the endeavor of planting a vegetable garden in our back yard! With the ever increasing cost of groceries as a result of fuel prices we decided this could be one Gardenway to help keep our budget in line with our support. We selected the flatest and sunniest area of our backyard to put in a 16′ x 16′ garden patch. We went to work tilling up the ground and in doing so had a wonderful surprise … we found more rocks than we found dirt. Apparently a previous owner had an above ground pool in this same flat and sunny part of the backyard and made a base of gravel to support the pool. Since this is the best part of the yard for a garden we pressed on. Erika planted most of the seeds all ready and with that we’re waiting to see what we can grow here this first year. We have hopes this fall of getting our mission director to bring over a skid steer to move out the rocky soil, that we plan to replace with good soil. We’re praying that we have enough soil for the plants to survive the sun… not like the soul we find in Matthew 13!

Help Build Hope: We were able to attend the Christ’s Church at Mason, Mason, Ohio Help Build Hope event in April. We were blessed with being able to stay in the home of Lyle and Anne Kelley; and to have some time to fellowship with our home church - Faith Bible Church while there. Phyllis and I currently have on our schedules two additional events we may be attending to help at: one in Nashville, TN that will be engaging teenagers to frame two houses, and one in Noblesville, IN to work with a church who will be doing 6 or 7 houses. We’re still firming our schedule for these dates at this time.

In closing we once again are enjoying the promise of the rebirth of life that comes with every spring; new flowers, blooming trees, renewed plants, and even singing birds. Winter seems to have hung for quite a long time this year but is finally yielding to spring. This reminds us of God’s faithfulness in that all of nature and all of mankind will eventually yield to Him, every knee shall bow, though it seems that through life winter tries to hang on - eventually it cannot. And this is our own lesson for living as followers of Christ … to hang on to the Lord, yielding to Him, and yielding not to the seasons of this world.

Lord bless…. Jim and Phyllis
