July turned out to be one of the hottest months on record for the Louisville, Kentucky area… and other parts around the country where CrossRoads Missions is involved in ministry. But the high temps didn’t stop the ministry from pressing forward.
INNER CITY
Our Inner City ministry re-launched during July where our new team of ministry leaders (Nolan and Monica, and Kit and Becca) partnered with a local church named the Soul Center, a church from Evansville, Indiana and the Newburg Area (of Louisville) Boys and Girls Club to get the ball rolling. This resulted in a full week of ministry in this inner city area where the church teams did some major repair work on houses of folks in the community. In addition they ran a “carnival” event in the evenings at the Boys and Girls Club. The week was capped off by a Friday evening musical presentation by the Evansville Church team for the whole community, that included a wonderful cook-out dinner… and the presentation of the reason we serve – to share Jesus.
STORYTELLERS
You might recall we recently started another new ministry field name Storytellers. While the Inner City team was serving in the inner city of Louisville, KY the Storytellers team was off to Peru for their very first Storytellers project. These projects consist of a team of individuals skilled in media development visiting the project site – of which most will be on non-U.S. soil. While there the team will collect details about the ministry, such as their history, their purpose, whom they serve. The team will also take hundreds of professional quality still photos and record video and audio of the ministry and the surrounding community. Once the team returns to our base here in Louisville, they’ll begin assembling all of these details into a media presentation that may include a full color video and/or printed journal, brochure, banners, post cards and even business cards or a web site in order to tell their story. Our goal is to help ministries around the world get the news out about their ministry, their goals and what they are doing to engage sharing the Gospel.
TRAILER THEFT
We also reported last month about the theft of one of our Help Build Hope trailers that, including all of the equipment inside, was valued at around $15,000. No news on the trailer. We figure the tools have all been moved out somewhere, perhaps even sold at yard sales. And the trailer — its most likely been sold to someone who is using it where licensing and registration is not an issue. But God moved through His people, and through some folks who don’t yet know him — and the Gospel went out! To date we’ve received enough cash donations to purchase a new trailer, format it for our purposes, and to begin acquiring the tools and equipment needed for Help Build Hope. Matter of fact, the new trailer should arrive today, 8/2/2010. Praise the Lord for how he has used a bad “thing” to once again give opportunity to share about Jesus, turning it into a great thing!
WEB SITE MINISTRY
Two new web sites went online in July! One for Jacksonville Bible Church – a church near Camp Lejeune in North Carolina whose ministry is greatly impacted by the Marine base. Visit their new site at www.jacksonvillebiblechurch.com. The second site is for the St. Matthews Area Ministry (St. Mam) here in Louisville. St. Mam is one of several area ministries in the metro community of Louisville created by area churches to provide a variety of services, amongst them helping those in financial need, emotional needs, food providing, medical help, and language training. They are a true outreach of the local church in a practical and tangible way. You can visit St. Mam’s web site at www.stmam.com.
Though July was a hot temperature month CrossRoads Missions was heavily engaged in accomplishing the goals of the ministry. In addition to the activities of our Inner City and Storytellers fields, our established fields in New Orleans, Appalachia and Mexico pressed ahead towards accomplishing their individual field ministry.
Join us in praising the Lord for the things that are being accomplished because of His blessings and His leadership over our various ministry fields and our staff.
