We Serve a Father Who Answers Prayer
You joined us in prayer for our initial days and weeks at CrossRoads Missions. Jim is becoming more at home in serving with CrossRoads as each day goes by. He literally went from “0 to 100†as far as work that needs to be done. Praise the Lord for His answered prayer in bringing us to a place where we can be fully engaged!
You joined us in prayer for the provision of a small, economical and fuel efficient vehicle for Phyllis. The Lord answered those prayers with a 1998 Saturn that is getting nearly 30 miles per gallon on the highway and 28 in the city!
You joined us in prayer for employment for Erika. Erika is now working at Wal-mart (just across the street from our apartments).
You prayed with us about our unpacking and settling into our apartment. The Lord has answered that prayer as we are “at home†now.
You prayed for safety, for health, for our hearts to not be discouraged and God answered!
We continue to pray and give thanks to our Lord for His provision for our financial needs, our health, our fitting in to our apartment community, involvement with the church locally and serving through CrossRoads Missions.
Hearing From the Lord In a Song
Matt Redman has recorded a song titled “Blessed Be Your Name†based on Job chapter 1. This song has really spoken to us lately! Through all of our recent changes — our leaving Texas, packing, loading and unloading, unpacking, and our ongoing effort to find a house — we have consistently heard this song over and over in our minds to where we are singing and speaking “BLESSED BE THE LORD!â€
Mission Activity
From “0 to 100 in one dayâ€! CrossRoads Missions has Jim engaged in a wide variety of projects to help make certain areas of the mission function in more efficient ways, for example: development of an Intranet that provides information and resources to missionaries and board members in various fields around the U.S. and Mexico, supporting the information technology needs of all field staff, ongoing ‘tweaking’ of the mission web site, www.crossroadsmissions.com, to keep it current and more informative as events occur throughout the mission, assisting with the “Help Build Hope†ministry of CrossRoads Missions in a variety of ways from helping to deliver framed houses via truck, to helping find ways to make the management of the ministries information more efficient and less time consuming.
Phyllis has been coming alongside of various CrossRoads staff in a much needed administrative fashion providing the behind-the-scenes help that makes things happen. We are expecting that Phyllis will become more engaged with the administration of the Help Build Hope ministry as we move down the road.
Pray for CrossRoads Missions Field Teams. This past week 26 interns and 1 apprentice joined with our Field Teams here in Louisville for final preparation and orientation prior to putting their feet on the ground in their respective field areas! Much will be happening in these field areas as teams from churches around the country come along side of them to help clean out muddy houses, frame up houses, or clear land; all the while taking opportunity to live out the Gospel and teach the Gospel when appropriate. Pray that those who are believers will receive a fuller leading from the Spirit as to His call on their lives, pray that lives will be reached for the cause of Christ and that a Biblical imprint is left by each week’s summer teams.
Pray for us in the weeks to come as we continue to find out what the Lord has in mind for us in serving with CrossRoads. Jim already has plans underway to help several times in local “Help Build Hope†events. We’re looking over our schedule to determine times that may work best for us to go to each of the field locations to get hands-on experience in these levels of the ministries of CrossRoads Missions.
Jim has also been working on a web site for Community Bible Church in Black Creek, WI (www.cbcblackcreek.org) and is collaborating with Paul Neeley (www.worldofworship.org) towards creating a CD to accompany a new book release, and then perhaps a DVD version as well. Pray for these ongoing works and ministry efforts!
Personal Items
- Your continued prayers for the healing of Jim’s left foot and ankle are needed. Especially as he prepares to help in the Help Build Hope ministry of CrossRoads which includes the framing up of houses, and the transportation of them to one of our ministry fields.
- Phyllis recently visited the dentist and discovered that her bridges are failing (or should we say ‘falling down’). The dentist has proposed a re-constructive plan whose cost is just above $2900. This is a not an optional situation so we are proceeding ahead with the treatment and trusting that the Lord will provide the funds.
- The hunt continues for a house. We are in sticker shock as we look at house costs. So far we’ve found about four houses that work for our income. They were in such disrepair so that even if we did purchase the house we could not do the repairs. We are confident our Lord brought us here with a plan for all of our needs and He will provide this need, whether it is a house or an apartment, in the right time!
Closing Thoughts
Wow … has it been a busy month! We are so thankful for the many opportunities and challenges that the Lord has given us, so thankful to be busy for the cause of Christ. Your faithfulness, through your prayers and financial backing are making it all possible!
We thank the Lord for the great blessing of serving along-side of you, and on behalf of you jointly in helping to enable the spreading of the Gospel to needy places all over the world, beginning here in Louisville, KY, to the fields of service for CrossRoads Missions here in the U.S. and Mexico, and to other parts of the world through those we serve by providing web site help!
Only God could organize such a thing … BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD!
Love – Jim and Phyllis
