Ministry Activity

Help Build Hope

This month CrossRoads Missions is ramping up for a 10 house build here in Louisville, Kentucky.  You might recall that last year in September we did a 33 house build with Southeast Christian Church here in Louisville.  Those 33 houses where sent to  our ministry field in New Orleans.  Today four of those houses are standing completed and occupied!  The ongoing effort with those 33 houses continues to open doors for sharing Christ with the many hurting and still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.  This hbhyear we’ll be working with the same church doing 10 houses.  These 10 houses will stay in the Louisville area this time.  Pray with us as we ramp up for this event!  Pray for the effectiveness of ministry through this effort, pray for health for our whole CrossRoads team (several of us all ready have sore and injured backs), pray for the weather – for no rain on September 26th – September 30th!

Inner City

CrossRoads Missions is about to begin a new chapter in our efforts to reach out for the cause of Christ – an Inner City Ministry.  Beginning with January 2008 we’ll be staffed to begin ministering at the urban inner city level.  We’ll initially begin focusing on Chicago (were we all ready have partnerships in place) and Louisville, Kentucky – were we live!  Our focus will be to send short term mission crews to the inner city to help churches renovate their facilities all the while being active in the community in an effort to help build the church and bring others to Christ.  Be watching our eNewsletter and our web site as this new ministry gets underway!

Web Site

www.crossroadsmissions.com is about to under go a face lift.  Graphically it’ll look pretty much the same.  The face lift involves a brand new comprehensive fly-out menuing system.  Jim is wanting site visitors to be able to find what they’re looking for on our web site within 1 or 2 clicks.  To do that he’s designed a complete new menu!  www.crossroadsmissions.com has 2,631 files in 409 folders … about 40% of these are images – that means that about 1,400 files will get checked as the new menu is rolled out.  Each one will get manually checked by Jim looking at the back side code and adding what is needed to make the menu function.  A comment by Phyllis “I’m glad it’s him and not me!”.

Embroidery

As a non-profit independent mission organization we are constantly on the look for ways to reduce our expenses, and also provide opportunities for fund raising.  One such way we are able to generate funds is through the embroidery work that Phyllis provides.  Since we started embroidering ball caps, sweatshirts, hoodies, t-shirts and more last year we have been able to offset the cost of the machine and the supplies and generate needed revenue.  The revenue we generate helps us purchase tools, equipment and cover operating costs in the overall work of CrossRoads Missions.  In August we were able to upgrade to a new two-head sewing machine. This means that Phyllis is able to embroider twice as many items in the same amount of time!  You can see some of the stuff that Phyllis creates by visiting our web site at http://www.crossroadsmissions.com/crosswear/embroidered/index.php
Because of this new two head machine we are able to expand this service to other ministries and churches.  Just let us know if you have a need to have your logo embroidered!

Prayer

We have a stack of 30 or so 3×5 cards on our kitchen table.  Each card lists a name or names, or a church, or a ministry.  Under that listing is a couple of bullets of prayer topics.  Every morning before breakfast a card is drawn out and those items prayed over.  The card is dated and placed back in the stack to roll over to the next month.  Please don’t hesitate to let us know how we can be praying for you!

Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer, financial support and encouragement – thank you for enabling our full-time vocational work in missions with CrossRoads Missions!

Love … Jim and Phyllis
