Special Help Needed
Updated April 7, 2008 – we just received this information in a recent newsletter from Judy Lopez in Piedras Negras, Mexico. If your church, Sunday school class, yourself, or if you know someone in business who can help please contact them – and then have them contact us! Here’s the details from Judy’s newsletter - “Our church, Way of Life Christian Church, is partnering with CrossRoads Missions in a hospital ministry. Every patient in the government hospital must have a 24-hour Caregiver. Nurses do not feed, dress, bathe or take patients to the bathroom. Caregivers do not get a bed or a recliner to sleep in. There are days when even patients don’t get a a bed, just a mat on the floor or a wheel chair to sleep in. The hospital does not provide toiletries or food for the Caregivers. CrossRoads Missions is providing, at least one day a week (sometimes two), toilet paper, baby wipes (so Caregivers can wash off), drinking water, toothbrush and toothpaste, and diapers (parents have to provide their own diapers as well). The ladies at our church prepare hot food, and we hand out tickets to 100 Caregivers and they come out to the CrossRoads Missions “Fun Bus” and we greet them, pray with them, serve them and send them off with a bag of toiletries”.”
March … what a month!
The month of March seemed like a never ending month, and then on another hand … zoom! … it’s over! It was packed full of activity with our ministry and in our personal lives.
Jim had several trips in March including a trip to south of Atlanta for a Help Build Hope weekend event and an over night retreat to a farm in the cornfields of Indiana! Spring is typically the time of year when all of CrossRoads Missions ministry fields return to full activity.
We’re very excited about the initial feedback we’ve received from those who have ministered with us in our new Inner City field. We’ve had several groups come and join us in downtown Louisville working with the Jefferson St. Baptist Center, http://jeffersonstreet.org/. The Center serves more than 10,000 homeless people in the Louisville area every year. CrossRoads Missions teams work hands-on to help rehab the facility and create a greater presence for the sharing of the Good News!
Our Church Plant
Jeffersontown Bible Church (JBC – www.jtownbible.org) is our church home here in Louisville. Jeffersontown is a suburb of the city of Louisville and fairly close to where we live. JBC is approaching it’s two year birthday in a couple of months. Our church family consists of about five families. We are sensing that our future lies in not meeting at a local hotel but moving to where we could have a greater physical presence and exposure to the Jeffersontown community. Such a move will help us extend our ministry opportunties and engage those who live in this growing area. To that end we ask that you join us in some specific prayer items:
- Pray for the provision of a facility that will give us drive-by exposure to the community.
- Pray for the finances that are needed.
- Pray for our numeric and spiritual growth.
- Pray for our Pastor, Larry. Larry’s income, like our own, comes from those who provide support and ministry donations. As the church grows we can provide more income support for him, but until then pray that his support team grows.
Web Site Help Ministry
We have had more inquiries for web site help in the last two months than any previous two months of activity. We’ve been in contact with ministries in South Korea, China, Russia, Albania, Japan, England and the United States. It’s exciting to see our Father providing opportunities to further this work that helps us contribute to ministries around the world!
Ministry Activity
We plan to be at Christ’s Church at Mason, Mason, OH (north of Cincinnati) on April 19th to help with a CrossRoads Missions Help Build Hope event. Phyllis’ mom and dad, Ken and Roberta Coyle, are members at this church. The event will begin that morning at 8:30 a.m. The church is organizing those who will participate in the event – but anyone can stop by and check things out. It’ll be easy to spot as we’ll be setup out in the parking lot. Feel free to stop by, and say “HI”. You can get directions to the church building from their website at www.ccmason.org.
We plan to worship the Sunday following at our home church, Faith Bible Church, in Cincinnati!
Personal Thoughts
During Jim’s trip to south of Atlanta for a Help Build Hope event the CrossRoads Missions team was able to visit several other area ministries. Their host pastor, David Powers, introduced Andy and Jim to the areas local Crisis Pregnancy Center director. This center operates from a very small house. CrossRoads Missions may be able to partner with them to help them build a 1,000 to 2,000 square foot facility to help them accommodate storing baby items, from clothing to food to cribs, which they are able to distribute from their offices. The director of the center shared “last year we saved 58 babies”!
The Lord is using CrossRoads Missions to help accomplish amazing things such as – helping to recover the church in a city ravaged by a hurricane, restore broken marriages (see the article on our home page at www.crossroadsmissions.com), distributing school chairs to Christian schools, building walls for ministries that need to expand, rehabbing a homeless ministry facility and even opening up the possibility of helping a ministry save babies!
We serve an amazing God whose reach is beyond our comprehension and finances – we find ourselves often in awe and amazed how He brings things together when those who follow Him are willing to simply “follow”.
With awe and appreciation … Jim and Phyllis
