Effective Ministry
In April our Inner City team was busy hosting two different groups, one of which was here in Louisville were we partner with the Jefferson Street Baptist Center in downtown Louisville. Our team gets to meet quite a few people when working in the inner city. One such person was a man, who 10 months ago, was – employed, a home-owner, married and living with his wife and children in their home. He was not a believer. He lost his job due to the general economic down turn. As a result he became depressed and began “hitting the bottle”. He then lost his home and his wife divorced him. With no where to go and pursuing the bottle even further he became one of the street folks of Louisville. During the week long presence of our team and a group of church volunteers working at the Center he began to see hope, and see something he needed. From there that something became that which he wanted and which he then received by faith. Immediately, upon believing in Jesus he asked to be immersed. Our crew stopped their work, took him to a local church and baptized him. He is now making an effort to get plugged into a downtown church — and of course the Center will be there to follow up with him in his walk.

A Personal Milestone
If you’ve been following along with our newsletter you know that last year was a major year for us with health activity. For Jim that meant being diagnosed with diabetes, and the discovery of a cancerous tumor – that led him to surgery. In June of last year our kids chipped in to buy him a road bike as his Father’s Day gift. Jim has been avidly riding since then to help control his diabetes and generally improve his health. He has set several major goals in 2009 for his bike riding — one of them is to participate in a short distance ride with a group of riders.
To that end he has committed to ride at least 20 miles in the Tour de Cure Louisville ride sponsored by the American Diabetes Association on May 16th. Please follow this link – www.jimnull.com/tour.htm – to visit his Tour web page. You are also most welcome to help sponsor his ride via a donation from that web page or by mailing a check to our home address made out to the American Diabetes Association. Ride donations/sponsorship amounts can be as low as only $5! Please also visit http://www.jimnull.com/?p=163 for more information.
He is also planning on riding in the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Bike & Hike Ride on Memorial Day, May 25th – about 18 miles. And, weather permitting, Jim rides to the mission office and back on most days – about 7 miles one way. Not only is this helping Jim to maintain his health, but riding to the mission office also helps us conserve on the cost of gasoline every time he can.
CrossRoads Missions Medical Mission Trip
You have heard it said, probably mucho times, that “a picture is worth a thousand words” … wonder how many words a slideshow of many pictures is worth? Every year CrossRoads Missions sponsors a Medical Mission trip into Piedras Negras, Mexico. This trip results in several clinics being held throughout the city to meet or address some of the medical needs of those who simply can’t afford them or don’t have access to them. Our team consists of doctors, PA’s, students and helpers. We are often presented with the opportunity to share Jesus as the reason we do what we do. Check out the slide show of this year’s mission via a YouTube presentation to the right.
