CrossRoads Missions

Quoting a pastor from Cincinnati – “normal is redefined daily”!  Boy did that hold true for the month of June.

On a Friday in June we learned that our housing options for our New Orleans ministry field were no longer available, and that the border issues, previously not experienced in our Piedras Negras, Mexico field, were increasing.  Of the two bits of information the housing in New Orleans has the potential for the greatest impact on the ministry.  This means that literally hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of folks who come to work in this ministry field will need to find their own housing accommodations.  Doing so could significantly increase their costs which may result in some not coming to help.

We continue to work towards a housing resolution so please pray with us to this end so that the work of sharing the Gospel will continue uninterrupted in the inner city areas of New Orleans.

In addition, pray for the circumstances along the border of Eagle Pass, Texas and Piedras Negras, Mexico. We would not personally hesitate to go … but others will as they “listen” to the reports of the news media.

Then, towards the end of June around 4:30 a.m. on a Thursday, one of our Help Build Hope trailers was stolen from our lot.  The trailer, along with the supplies, equipment and tools contained in it, are valued at around $15,000.  Our thoughts first were “I sure wouldn’t wanna be the person that stole God’s trailer and His tools!”, and then we became confident that this event, that looks like a tragedy in wordly eyes, was another opportunity.

As folks in the community, and around the country, learned of the theft, God began to move in their hearts!  That very day people began phoning our offices with offers of help or asking what was needed.  Others began arriving to unload hammers and other tools — given as gifts.  We’ve received several anonymous cash gifts.  In addition, several churches and individuals have responded with donations.  To date we’ve received nearly $8,000 to help replace the trailer and it’s belongings.  And, the Gospel went out on top of all of this as many began to ask details about what CrossRoads Missions is all about.

Phyllis and I have, once again, been amazed at how the Lord moves upon His people to respond during times of need.  We’re confident, that as we march forward, the trailer, and the equipment will be replaced and the ministry of our Help Build Hope program will go on.

On The Personal Side of Things

The roof on our house has taken a bit of a beating the last couple of years.  In 2009 the “Great ICE Storm” hit the entire state of Kentucky.  We lost two trees during this storm – the largest falling on the front of our house and the roof.  We are able to get the trees removed and some roof shingles replaced.  Since 2009 we’ve had several major storms with very high winds.  Each storm peeled away some additional shingles.  It has been as if each storm “picked” away at the layers on the roof.  We recently had some folks inspect the roof who began working with our home owners insurance – and to our pleasure, they were able to get our roof replaced!  Our only out of pocket cost was our $500 deductible.  Praise the Lord!  We were originally looking at a cost of around $4,000 based upon other estimates we had received with other providers who did not work with home owners insurance companies.

We’re “celebrating” a one year anniversary of the Lord’s providence of protection.  Last year on July 1 Jim experienced a very bad bike crash.  You might recall all of that excitement.  We are so grateful for the Lord’s protection and guidance during the wreck and the after math. Today Jim’s left hand is about 90% – 95% functional.  He still has occasional pain and moments with his left ankle, and of course there are some scars here and there.  Other than this, as you know, he’s back on his exercise routine of bike riding!  Read more ….

Thank you for your partnership with us in ministry and most importantly for your support through prayer and finances!
