CrossRoads Missions

In the last couple of years our Appalachia field has been our fastest growing field in the number of folks going on mission trips with us.  This year started with big changes happening in our Appalachia field.   The partner we worked with out of our Maytown, Kentucky base is no more.  That non-profit has completely closed their doors.  As a result we’re regrouping to determine a new partner, along with a course and direction.  Additionally, one of our key staff members in our Appalachia ministry field has shared that they’ll be departing later this spring.  Our need for staff (including interns), along with ministry support, continues to be our most important concern for the Appalachia field.  There seems to be literally no end to the number of ministry opportunities in this field!

Because of some decisive and significant steps taken this past September CrossRoads Missions has merged into 2012 on more stable financial footing.  These steps, along with the retirement of a significant debt, have our Executive Director sleeping more soundly!  We are so grateful for the Lord’s provision for where we’ve come after how bleak things “looked” last September.

Jim’s office is currently full of plastic bags of goodies donated for the missions use.  It is amazing how many folks “think of us” as an opportunity to help others.  Bags full of children’s toys, clothing and various other household items where delivered by some local folks.  We’ll cull through this collection for items we can directly use in our mission work – and the remaining will be spun off to partnering and/or local ministries!  We now have a bus full of such items planned to be sent to our Mexico field; items ranging from wheel chairs to girls dolls!

Personal Notes

“God moments” – as Phyllis calls them – happen with a great deal of regularity.  We recently picked up Wonder Van II from our local mechanic.  Second visit in one week.  Jim had just received  his fund raising postcards for his bike ride for A Woman’s Choice and Necole’s Place (read more here VERY IMPORTANT, too).  The lead guy read the card and said “fundraising huh?” .. and then almost broke out in tears.  Jim said “yes”.  Then they had a conversation about how his daughter was just told today about needing a new liver, and that they needed help on how to raise funds to pay for it.  Jim told him to let him know how he could help.  Jim will be following up with him next week  –  perhaps God is providing another opportunity to share the grace and mercy of a loving God.

Speaking of Wonder Van II – we sold our old van (Wonder Van I), and we were blessed with this gift, at no cost to purchase, of Wonder Van II.  We have in it almost what we received from selling the other van bringing it up to safe driving condition.  Isn’t it amazing how God provides!

We just received an order of our new ministry bookmarks – pictured here.  Please let us know if you would like one by dropping us your street address.  We’ll get a few off to you.  They’re handy reminders to pray for our ministry with CrossRoads Missions.
