Ministering on the Corner of Wayne and Walnut

In February of 2020 we officially purchased our building at 113 N. Wayne Ave in the Village of Lockland for $1. Since that date we have had more than 76 volunteers from six different churches, and from within the neighborhood, help in rehabbing our building in an effort to Make a Home for the Metanoia Center.   We have moved over 20 tons of “stuff” out of the building in this time frame.  There is still lots of work to do as we look forward to moving from demoing to putting it all back together!

Next door to 113 N. Wayne is 115 N. Wayne.  In late spring we learned that the owner of 115 was having conversations with a group that would bring a bar next door to our ministry center!   We reached out to our prayer group, our board and many others asking them to pray for God’s grace to prevent this.  We didn’t expect the answer He provided!  Two weeks after we began praying we received a phone call that said “we’re sending you a donation check so that you can purchase the building next to your ministry center”.  We were speechless!   All we could do was say “thank you” and “wow!”.  The very next day we contacted the owner of 115 N. Wayne and said that we had the funds to purchase his building for the price he is asking.  We entered into a contract and on this past Friday, July 24th, 2020, we closed on the purchase.

The Metanoia Center is now the owner of two buildings on the corner of Wayne and Walnut in the Village of Lockland!

We have several visions for the use of 115 N. Wayne that we are currently developing. Both visions are focused on providing resources for the community that do not now exist, and that will also extend the mission and ministry of the Metanoia Center. We will make “official” announcements as we make connections with potential partners and solidify each vision.  115 N. Wayne is pictured below.  At one time this building was a florist (113 N. Wayne was a funeral home about the same time).

Full Time With the Metanoia Center

With the growth of the Metanoia Center we’ve seen our “hours of activity” becoming more and more in demand by the Metanoia Center.  And, to accomplish the present and future goals of the Metanoia Center, and continue to grow it’s urban ministry, our activity will continue to shift in that direction.  This is especially true now that the Center owns two buildings on the corner of Wayne and Walnut. Which has brought us to the realization that we need to be “undivided” and “full time” with the Metanoia Center.

With the blessing and approval of the Board of the Metanoia Center, we announced to the Global CHE Network (CHE = Community Health Evangelism), in July 2020, Jim’s resignation of his Technology and Service Team role.  His final day with GCN will be December 19, 2020.   From now through December, Jim will be working with the leadership of the Global CHE Network to smoothly transition his activity.

On the Metanoia Center giving page is now a new drop down selection for “Ministry of Jim and Phyllis Null” that designates a donation directly to our ministry support.

For those who currently send in regular financial support for Jim and Phyllis, please be watching for a snail-mail letter explaining how to re-direct your financial giving from the Global CHE Network to the Metanoia Center!

We’re very excited about this change!  We often speak with folks about “having skin in the game” in Urban Ministry, and the importance of this.  This change will move us to being “all in” – effective in one area of ministry versus dividing our time between several.

Two More Work Days

We have two more work days scheduled in August to wrap our summer, August 8th and August 22nd.   Please visit https://metanoiacenter.net/volunteer.php for more information or to register!

More Great News

In previous newsletters we shared about our need for a construction professional to work with us to repair the second-floor damaged floor joists in the rear of our building at 113 N. Wayne.   This past weekend we met with a gentleman who has laid out a plan to do this work and will be guiding us on how to accomplish it!  Our first step is to receive a permit from Hamilton County due to the type of work involved.  We’ll be pressing forward with this work now with a plan, and a professional to help and guide us!

Prayer Topics

  • Pray as we transition from the Global CHE Network to full time with the Metanoia Center.
  • Pray for the Global CHE Network as they seek someone to fulfill the role of Technology Facilitator.
  • Praise God for His provision for a professional to help repair the floor.
  • Pray with us for how God desires us to use the new building at 115 N. Wayne.
  • Praise God for his financial provision to purchase the building at 115 N. Wayne.
  • Praise God for the impact our Saturday Work Teams have had on the neighborhood, for engaging those who pass the building on the street and for being a visible presence of “transforming people and place”.
  • Pray for ongoing financial donations for our personal support, as well as for funds to continue the rehab work at the Metanoia Center.
