Passing Out NTs in Lockland

On Saturday, September 16, about 20 people gathered together in Lockland to pass out New Testaments.  By the end of the activity they had passed out more than 350 copies of New Testaments!

Lockland Christian Church, Victory Gospel Temple, Christ Temple Apostolic Church and Faith Bible Church all participated in the effort.

A huge thank you to the many folks who made this day possible!  We received many donations for food and snacks for the day of the event.  And the New Testaments that were passed out where also donated.  We once again saw the body of Christ working together to accomplish the common goal of presenting Jesus to others!

We are praying about how God will use putting His Word in the hands of over 350 people.  It was especially good to see individuals who had received a New Testament walking and standing on the street reading it.

Please be praying about an upcoming meeting for local pastors and plans being made for future community outreach activity.

Our Changing Culture

I love this quote from Darrow Miller – “If the church does not disciple the culture, the culture will disciple the church.”.  We are actually seeing the church being discipled by the culture as the church adopts cultural trends, and, most importantly, adopts cultural viewpoints, philosophies and lifestyles. Especially as cultural truths are accepted over Biblical truths.

In our cities this change is even more rapid.  According to many metrics in the U.S. our inner cities churches are not only caving to cultural viewpoints, but they’re disappearing completely.  Consider this from Mark Clifton in the book titled “Reclaiming Glory”, “Study after study indicates that 70 to 80 percent of evangelical churches in North America are either plateaued or declining“. And “Southern Baptists alone lose more than 900 churches every year. Ninety percent of those churches are in our cities.  Seven out of ten churches are either plateaued or declining.”  We, here in the church, often find ourselves wondering how the great cities of Europe have declined with their Christian heritage.  U.S. cities are on the same track!  These statistics point to the importance that churches in the U.S. should have in engaging their “Jerusalem”.

When passing out NTs in Lockland I walked with a man in his 20’s for a couple of blocks, knocking on doors together in the community while talking about “the church”.  He made this interesting comment, quoted as best I can recall, “the church today has gotten so used to being inside it’s four walls when what need to be doing is this, getting out into our communities to share the Good News“. He also said “the churches need to come together, even though we may worship differently, look different, and have some theological differences, we need to come together, to work together, to share Jesus“.  He aptly spoke clearly one of our goals for our community – that the churches will come together in Christ and represent Him to the community.  It is the power of God through Jesus that transforms hearts in men and women.  When hearts are transformed their lives change, when the lives of people change, the community changes and then all things begin to change as the body of Christ disciples the culture.

Pray for our effectiveness, pray for opportunities, pray for wisdom as we begin the process of making plans for the rest of 2017 and into 2018.
