Where To Find Joy
How would you describe joy? In developed countries, like the United States, “joy” is intimately linked to material possessions and the money to buy them. If I had that new car? If I had a new cell phone? If I had a bigger house? If I could go on vacation? If, if, if. Look at this photo and the joy on these young ladies faces as they run down a dirt road together. Their joy is in their relationship with each other. They don’t own any of the “if I” joy items we think we need. Consider that their town has roads made of dirt (which this time of the year is muddy). It’s hot and humid with no air conditioning. They don’t have great schools or great medical clinics, or shopping centers (let alone a mall). Yet they have that which we all seek – joy! True joy is only found in a restored relationship with God who created all things – no in the “if I” things. Find out more by connecting with us. Note: what do you think they are holding in their hands? Small, perhaps 6-ounce plastic bags of purified water to drink. #CHE #joy #LaVerde #Guatemala

Global Ministry
This month of August Jim traveled, as a member of the Global CHE Network Service Team, to San Felipe, Guatemala. The purpose of the trip was to provide support to Central American CHE (community health evangelism) leaders as they gathered for the MesoAmerican Consultation about participating in the worldwide Million Village Challenge movement.
The Consultation attendees where around 46 men and women from many Central American countries – several having traveled across Central America by car and bus for more than 30 hours to participate. As the Consultation came to a close, CHE leaders mapped their countries indicating cities and villages where the Gospel had penetrated, and those where it had not. This included plotting where churches had been planted. Once, having mapped where the Gospel was, and was not, the entire gathering then broke out in prayer for their individual countries. The video below is a brief clip of that time of prayer.

Community Ministry
Answered Prayers
We are now seeing the fruit of more than two years of praying! Young Life has announced that they will be working with high schoolers at Lockland Schools. This means that all grades now have a Biblically-centered after school program with Young Life, Cru and Good News Club! Top that with the kick off of English as a Second Language (ESL). The ESL classes are primarily focused on adults learning conversational English. A team, literally assembled by God, from several different church backgrounds, has come together in response to prayer to help immigrants in Lockland, and surrounding communities, learn English.
We are very excited as we consider how these, and many other activities, are resulting from teams of people around the country, and those walking the streets of our Village faithfully praying.
Fall Prayer Walk
We’ll be sponsoring one more Prayer Walk this fall on Saturday, October 19th. More details will be coming forward as we finalize the plans. For now mark your calendar and please plan on joining us for a few hours revisiting the area of Lockland east of I-75 and south of Wyoming Ave.
Grief Journeys Seminar
This one day seminar is being conducted by Lockland’s Own Don Stowell, minister at Lockland Christian Church. It is a one-day seminar that will include lunch. Don has conducted more than 1000 funerals in his 20+ years in ministry. He’s helped hundreds work through grief, from the loss of a loved one, to illness, to job loss and more. Full details and registration information can be found at the button below.
How To Pray
Below is a list of how you can be praying!
- October 19th Prayer Walk
- Phyllis is scheduled to teach two Faith & Finances classes this fall. Pray for attendees, and pray for her stamina and time management. One class is being held for the clients of Juliette’s Hope (a recovery ministry here in Lockland) and the other is being held in partnership with Lincoln Heights Outreach.
- Jim will be helping with ESL classes this fall which will last into November. The classes meet Sunday evenings in the Recreation Hall of the Village of Lockland. They are open to anyone who can attend.
- Continue to pray with us for personal ministry support funds, and also for funding for the Metanoia Center.
- We have an upcoming meeting with a church’s leadership doing urban ministry in Louisville, Kentucky. Pray how God might use us to enhance their ministry with wholistic ministry.
- Pray for the leaders, teachers and volunteers of Lockland’s Good News Club, Cru and Young Life teams. Pray for the students and for listening ears and open hearts.
