Work Day

Our first Work Day of 2021 is now scheduled for Saturday, May 8th.  Please register early as we are limited to only 10 volunteers for this Work Day.   We will be demolishing the front door and display windows on 113 N. Wayne.  After this is complete and the debris loaded into a dump truck we’ll then place temporary boarding up in their place.   We’ll have temporary boarding in place for several weeks after the final measurement for a new door and windows by our contractor!

This work day is a result of receiving two donations for our Spring 2021 Project fundraiser.  We announced the fundraiser on Facebook and on the Metanoia Center’s website, and, in less than two weeks we received over $8000.00 in donations for this project!   We’re very excited about being able to get this done as it will transform the entry way to this building.  Thank you to our donors for helping to Make a Home for the Metanoia Center!

We are also looking for three individuals who can schedule together to lay down some sub-flooring in the upstairs of 113 N. Wayne.  This can be done almost anytime, any day of the week or during the Work Day on May 8th.  Please email Jim if you are able to help with this project!

Other Projects Waiting to Be Done

On the Metanoia Center’s website we’ve listed some projects that we are seeking funds to do.   There is quite a range of amounts.  All of the amounts are estimated – which we will re-estimate before actually implementing the project.   Construction costs are still changing rapidly due to the current demands of that industry.   Please reach out to us for details on any project or to let us know of your interest in contributing or taking on that project as your personal “mission”.   Follow this link to view the list.

ESL Classes Underway

English as a Second Language Classes are underway.  We are very grateful for our team of ESL teachers as they work with the students.  One of our teachers has added extra days of teaching as he meets with his student at their apartment.   Classes are held every Sunday at 4pm at 115 N. Wayne Ave.   We just completed our second class.  Our first class had 4 students, and our second was up to 8.  As word continues to be shared about the classes we expect the number of students to grow!   Pictured below is a photo of a recent class time!

Rock Painting!

Elizabeth and Matt Turner, along with Charity and Caleb (Elizabeth is our oldest daughter) sponsored a Rock Painting Day at the Metanoia Center!   About 18 people attended this event with hands-on painting of a rock.   Rocks that are left behind will be sealed and then placed into the Greenwood Garden box next to building 115, along with flowers.   From here the rocks can be enjoyed or taken home by anyone visiting the garden.

This activity was great way to meet new people from the community and to introduce others to the Metanoia Center!  Photos of the activity can be seen on the Metanoia Center’s Facebook page here.

Windows and Concrete Block Walls

Mike and Marcus returned to the Metanoia Center once more to help us with masonry work!  In 115 there were three original metal frame windows that we engaged them to block up.  This not only makes it more secure for the future – but also helps structurally as well as in insulating the building from weather.   Their work took them most of a day to complete!   Thank you to our donors whose generous giving made it possible for us to hire Mike and Marcus to complete this work!

We have been working on power washing the exterior of 115 removing as much loose paint as possible.  With the combination of a power washer and metal scrapers we are peeling away loose paint.   Once we have all of the loose paint gone, we’ll then use a primer sealer to prep the exterior for painting.   Please feel free to let us know if you’d like to be involved in power washing, or painting/sealing.  We are working throughout the week, weather permitting, on this project.   As result of the exterior tuck pointing and power washing we are developing what we refer to as “camo look” on building 115.

This effort, along with the entry doors on 113 help provide an ongoing statement to the community that we are progressing with the transformation of the buildings!

Prayer List

  • As ESL classes begin we continue to pray for our teacher/leaders.  We are also praying for the students that will be coming – that they will come with open hearts to receive the teaching and the message.
  • We continue to pray for the repair of the floor joists!  One of our volunteers has connected us with a construction trades organization – we have great hope for this connection that it will bring to us a team to do this work!
  • We have submitted another grant application for $25,000.   Thus we are waiting to hear on 7 grant applications.  We are praying for favor with each grantee in that they will catch the vision and transformative impact of the Metanoia Center and partner with us through a grant award!
  • Our board will be meeting in June to work on a Strategic Plan for the Metanoia Center!  We’re very excited for this time as we work with Elemental Churches to towards this effort.
